RNSH staff unite in last ditch attempt to counter flawed redevelopment plans

All quiet on the Labor front today, despite an unprecedented move by the Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) Medical Staff Council (MSC) to put the current ‘bed block bedlam’ to rest.

The 350-strong RNSH MSC convened a meeting today to bolster their opposition to the NSW government’s grossly under-funded and exceedingly flawed hospital redevelopment.

Dr Tony Joseph, Chair of the RNSH MSC, expressed his concern with NSW Health’s poor planning associated with the hospital upgrade, as the proposed $1 billion redevelopment of RNSH would result in, at best, only 14 additional acute adult medical and surgical beds.

NSW Shadow Minister for Health, The Hon. Jillian Skinner MP has publicly responded today with a promise to immediately halt all plans to sell or lease hospital buildings, and to develop an entire campus plan to accommodate the needs now and for the next 30 years if her party wins government.

“I have been working with RNS doctors for years and clinicians and the public can be assured a NSW Liberals and Nationals Government will work towards an outcome that is good for the community, good for patients and good for hardworking doctors and nurses.”

We commend Jillian for recognising how important this issue is to the future of NSW residents.
