January has ticked over into February, bringing about the annual febfast theoretical diet pilgrimage. Established at as a fundraiser for young disadvantaged Australians, the goal is to cease sugar, alcohol or any of your other vices for one month.

We’re well aware from past projects that addiction is a cruel beast. Those who find themselves in delicate socioeconomic situations may find themselves vulnerable to addiction, particularly young people.

Now, following the indulgence of the festive season, VIVA! is supporting the pause for a cause. Brooke, one of our account managers, gave her reasoning for cutting alcohol from her diet.

“It’s not only an important cause, but a way to kick start healthier habits.”

Febfast’s focus isn’t only on addiction. From mental health issues to abuse and neglect, vital funds raised throughout the month will be put toward supporting youth workers in their mission to support some of the most vulnerable in our society.

Programs and services helping young people get back on their feet will also benefit from the boost in funding.

Given 40 per cent of Australians drink alcohol weekly, we could certainly go without for those who have so little. If we’ve rallied your support enough to join the febfast cause, there are a few precautions to take.

Heavy drinkers can suffer withdrawal symptoms and should consult their healthcare professional before going cold turkey.
